My father in law was diagnosed about 10 months ago with Alzheimers. He lives on his own, has carers come in two hours a day to do his dinner, etc. He goes to a Day Centre twice a week which he loves. He hasn't been too bad. He still knows who everyone is so that isn't a factor yet. The main problem at the moment is he keeps leaving his door unlocked. He will wander out for a walk, leaving the inner door wide open and the outer door just unlocked. His bungalow is quite sheltered so the door can't be seen very easily but we have a fear that one day someone will just walk in. However this morning my husband went in to take him to the day centre and found him in bed and all the doors unlocked including the garage which is worrying as my husband's motorbike is kept in there! Any suggestions how to stop this? He doesn't need to go into a home yet, I think that would be worse for him, but we can't be there to check the doors are locked constantly.
