Two weeks ago we went on a family date to cheer for the No Coast Derby Girls. For those who don't know, they are the local roller derby team. Their bouts are a great family friendly event.

The No Coast Derby Girls were playing at the Pinnacle Bank Arena. The tickets were $12 for adults and kids 10 and under were free. We ended up paying $24 for four hours of entertainment plus $5 to park. There were two bouts with halftimes and a break between matches.

Why was it family friendly?

1) We did not hear one curse word in a four hour period. Everyone was kind and understanding to the many kids attending. Because it was at the Pinnacle, kids had room to be kids. They could climb the stairs, run to the bathrooms and cheer loudly without upsetting anyone.

2) The players are very competitive but they are great sports. It is a phenomenal way of showing your kids how to treat their opponents with respect and kindness. After the game, spectators can meet and greet members of the team. The players are just as excited to meet their littlest fans as the kids are to meet them.

3) It was FUN. During time outs the players are dancing. The announcer is telling jokes and the names of the players will have you cracking up the entire night. My favorite was Schwetty Betty. I laughed every time they said her name.

4) It was entertaining. It was crazy to watch women roller skating really quickly while pushing, shoving and blocking each other. Our daughters loved that the players were women and told everyone that "only girls can play roller derby. They boys just cheer." The evening was made even better because our team won!

We will definitely be attending this again.
